fee proposal

A Fee Proposal is issued following an Initial Meeting accompanied with a Full Project Proposal.

A fee proposal is a document describing the services that an architect proposes to undertake and the fee that will be charged. Depending on the project his may be in the form of a letter, or may be a more detailed document accompanied by a cover letter. It is very important that the nature of an appointment is set out in detail before work commences to avoid potential confusion or misunderstanding of what is expected, how much it will cost, and what is not included, and to prevent scope creep. Institutes such as the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) include a requirement for a written agreement of appointment in their code of conduct.

As a standard a Fee Proposal includes the following information:

   / project description

   / project schedule

   / fee basis

   / stage payments

   / expenses

   / types of expenses

   / terms of payment

   / terms of appointment
